How to add a timestamp to a Discord message

Pick the date and time, and the time zone that time is written in. Press Now for the current time.
Pick a style from the table. :F shows the full date and time, :R counts down ("in 3 hours"), :t shows only the time. Set the reader zone and Discord language to see what someone else gets.
Press Copy next to the style, or build a whole message in the message box and press Copy message.

How do I make a timestamp in Discord?

Write <t:UNIX:STYLE> in your message, where UNIX is the time in Unix seconds and STYLE is one letter. For example <t:1618953630:F> shows Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 5:20 PM to a reader in New York and Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 6:20 AM to a reader in Seoul. It works in any message you type, not only in bots. The generator above writes the code for the date you pick.

What are the Discord timestamp formats?

There are 9 styles. In US English, for April 20, 2021 at 5:20:30 PM: t = 5:20 PM, T = 5:20:30 PM, d = 4/20/21, D = April 20, 2021, f = April 20, 2021 at 5:20 PM, F = Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 5:20 PM, s = 4/20/21, 5:20 PM, S = 4/20/21, 5:20:30 PM, and R = 5 years ago. A code with no letter, like <t:1618953630>, shows as f. The s and S styles are newer, so older guides do not list them.

How does the Discord relative timestamp (:R) work?

<t:UNIX:R> shows how far the time is from now, such as in 30 seconds, in 2 hours, in a day, or 3 months ago, and Discord keeps it current while the message is on screen. Discord counts seconds up to 59, minutes up to 59, hours up to 21, days up to 25, then months and years. It is the style to use for countdowns to an event or a giveaway end.

Why does my Discord timestamp show a different time for other people?

That is what it is for. Discord draws the code in the time zone of each reader's device and in their Discord language, so a US reader sees 4/20/21, 5:20 PM and a UK reader sees 20/04/2021, 22:20 for the same code. If a reader sets Discord's clock to 12-hour or 24-hour, that wins over the language default. Pick a reader zone and language above to check.

Why is my Discord timestamp showing as plain text?

Discord only converts a code that looks exactly like <t:digits> or <t:digits:letter>, with one of the letters t, T, d, D, f, F, s, S, or R. A space, a letter like :x, a second letter, or a number longer than 17 digits leaves the code as typed. Also check the number is in seconds: a 13-digit millisecond value does render, but as a date tens of thousands of years from now.

How do I get the Unix timestamp for a date?

Pick the date, time, and zone above; the Unix time shows under the fields and inside every code. It is the number of seconds since January 1, 1970 UTC, so 1618953630 is April 20, 2021 at 21:20:30 UTC. In JavaScript it is Math.floor(Date.now() / 1000), in Python int(time.time()).
