Post the time in Slack

Slack does not convert a time you type, so write it once per zone.

Dana gets it at Tue 9:00 AM in New York, inside their working hours. In Slack: the arrow next to Send, Schedule for later, Custom time, then pick today and 10:00 PM.

Slack's "Tomorrow at 9:00 AM" preset uses your zone. For Dana that is Tue 8:00 PM in New York, outside their working hours.

Posting from a bot, workflow app or webhook? Only an app can show a time in each reader's own zone. The Slack timestamp generator makes that <!date> string.

How to use the Slack time zone converter

  1. Set your Slack time zone. It is the zone Slack's Schedule message dialog uses, shown under its title.
  2. Add teammates with their zone and Slack working hours. The sample team shows how it works; the list is saved in your browser.
  3. Drag across the strips to move the line. Each row shows that person's local time and whether Slack is holding their notifications.
  4. Copy the message for a channel post, or pick a teammate and enter the date and time from the Schedule message card in Slack.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change my time zone in Slack?

Click your profile picture, then Preferences, then Language & region. Under Time zone, untick "Set time zone automatically" if you want to pick one yourself, and choose the zone. Slack says it uses this zone for summary and notification emails, times in your activity feeds, and reminders.

Does Slack convert a time I type in a message?

No. Slack shows when a message was sent in each reader's time, but "meet at 3pm" stays 3pm for everyone. Only an app, bot or webhook can post a time that each reader sees in their own zone. We checked on 2026-09-29: even copying such a message in Slack pastes it back as plain text. So write the time once per zone, which is what the Copy message button does.

Which time zone does Slack's Schedule message use?

Yours. The Custom time dialog names it under the title, for example "Time zone: Seoul", and the presets like "Tomorrow at 9:00 AM" use the same zone. So to reach someone at 9:00 AM their time, enter the matching time in your zone. The time list steps by 15 minutes, and you can also type a time.

What happens if I message someone outside their working hours?

In Slack, Preferences > Availability > Working hours sets the days (Every day, Weekdays, or Custom) and hours when notifications come through. Outside them, notifications are paused, and Slack shows a snooze icon next to the person's name. The message still arrives; they see it when they next open Slack.
