Slack emoji maker
A free Slack emoji generator and GIF emoji maker. Drop in a GIF and it stays animated, resized for Slack and kept under its 128 KB limit. Or start from an image or a few words and add a moving effect like intensifies, spin, or party. It all runs in your browser.
How to make a custom Slack emoji
- Pick Image to emoji and drop, choose, or paste a PNG, JPG, GIF, or WebP. Until you do, a sample image shows every effect. Or pick Text to emoji and type up to three short lines.
- Crop to a square with the zoom and position sliders, or fit the whole image. Tick Remove background to clear a plain background.
- Pick an effect: none, intensifies, spin, party, pulse, slide, bounce, rock, or flip. Every effect is rendered as a real file, with its size under the thumbnail.
- Check the preview at 16, 22, and 32 pixels on light and dark themes, which is how big the emoji shows in Slack.
- Download the PNG or GIF. In Slack, open the emoji picker in the message box or the status dialog and click Add Emoji at the bottom. Upload the file and paste the name the tool suggests.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Slack emoji maker free?
Yes. There is no account, watermark, or limit. The image, text, and GIF work all happen in your browser, so your file never leaves your computer.
How do I make an animated Slack emoji?
Upload an image or type some text, then pick an effect such as intensifies, spin, party, pulse, or slide. The tool draws every frame, encodes a looping GIF, and keeps it under 128 KB and 50 frames, the limits in the Slack help center.
How do I make an intensifies or party parrot style emoji?
Pick Intensifies for the fast shake used by emoji like :mild-panic-intensifies:, or Party for the cycling rainbow colors of the party parrot. Speed buttons make the loop slower or faster. It works on photos, logos, GIFs, and text.
How do I convert an image to a Slack emoji?
Drop the image in the Image to emoji tab. Crop it to a square with the zoom and position sliders, or fit the whole image with transparent padding. The tool scales it to 128x128 pixels and shows the file size before you download.
Can I make an emoji with a transparent background?
Yes. In the image tab, tick Remove background: it clears the color around the edges, and the Tolerance slider sets how close a color has to be. In the text tab, tick transparent next to the background color.
Can I make a Slack emoji from text?
Yes. Use the text tab, type up to three short lines, and pick a font, text color, outline, and background. Any effect works on text too. The tab also spells your text with the letters from Slack's Alphabet emoji pack, like :alphabet-white-a:, ready to paste. Those codes only work after someone adds the Alphabet pack under Add Emoji, Emoji packs.
What size does a Slack emoji need to be?
Make it square and 128x128 pixels, the size Slack stores. In our 2026-09-30 upload test, stills of any size went in (a 3 MB PNG was stored at 128x128), and the only files Slack refused were GIFs still over 128 KB after its own resize. This tool aims for 128x128 and keeps GIFs under 128 KB and 50 frames, so a very noisy GIF can step down to 64x64 to fit.
How do I turn a GIF into a Slack emoji?
Drop the GIF in the Image to emoji tab and keep No effect. The tool keeps up to 50 frames, scales each one, and writes a new animated GIF under 128 KB. In our 2026-10-03 test, a 978 KB, 400x400 GIF came out at 128x128 and 112.9 KB with all 44 frames, a 90-frame GIF kept 50, and a noisy 631 KB clip dropped to 64x64 to fit. Pick an effect to add motion on top: the clip keeps its own motion while it spins or shakes.
What makes a good custom Slack emoji?
One subject, cropped tight, with strong contrast. Emoji show at 32 pixels or smaller in messages and reactions, so fine detail and long words disappear. A face, a logo, or one or two bold words work best.
Does it work for Discord, Teams, or stickers?
The PNG and GIF files are plain square images, so you can upload them as Discord emoji, Teams reactions, or chat stickers too. Discord allows up to 256 KB, so a file that fits Slack also fits Discord.
