The Slack /remind command follows one format: /remind [#channel or me] [what] [when]. For example, /remind #team to submit expenses every Thursday at 4pm posts that reminder in #team every Thursday at 4 p.m., and /remind me to call the bank at 3pm pings you once at 3 p.m. Type it in any message box and send. Reminders repeat by day, week, month or year, never by the hour. Type /remind list to see and delete them.

We ran every example on this page through Slack on 3 October 2026, in a test channel of our own workspace, and recorded what Slack set up. Two phrasings for "last day of the month" were saved with the wrong schedule and no error, so those are covered below too. To skip the syntax, the free Slack /remind command builder writes the command from a form.

Slack /remind syntax

  • • Who: a channel (#team-standup) or me.
  • • What: start with to, or wrap the text in quotes: "Post the weekly update". Slack shows the two differently: to submit expenses became "set up a reminder to "submit expenses"", and a quoted text is shown as written.
  • • When: a time (at 3pm), a day (tomorrow, on October 30), a delay (in 45 minutes) or a repeat (every weekday at 9:25am). A delay makes /remind work as a timer; pomodoro and countdown setups are in Slack timer.
  • Times use the time zone of the person who sets the reminder. Every channel reminder we created posted a notice for the whole channel ending in "Korea Standard Time", our zone.

    /remind examples for a channel

Each line below was accepted by Slack. The right column is what Slack's notice in the channel said it set up.

Command (after /remind #channel)What Slack set up
to submit expenses every Thursday at 4pm4PM every Thursday
"Standup in 5 minutes, post blockers in the thread" every weekday at 9:25am9:25AM every weekday
to update the on-call sheet every Monday at 10am10AM every Monday
"Crit at 3, share your file link here" every Wednesday at 2:45pm2:45PM every Wednesday
to hand over open tickets every Friday at 5pm5PM every Friday
"Timesheets are due today" every month on the 1st at 9am9AM on the 1st of every month
"Close the books" every month on the 31st at 9am9AM on the 31st of every month
"Daily report" every day9AM every day
to review the launch checklist on October 30 at 2pm2PM Friday, October 30th, once

A "3" inside a quoted message did not confuse Slack, but the same words without quotes can: in our earlier tests call Bob at 5 tomorrow at 9am, unquoted, was read as 5 a.m. Quote any message that contains a time. Other misreads we reproduced are in Slack reminder not working. A channel reminder can include @here or @channel; who each one reaches is in @here vs @channel vs @everyone.

    /remind examples for yourself

CommandWhen it was due (we sent it at 4:43 PM on a Saturday)
/remind me to call the bank at 3pm3:00 PM the next day, because 3 p.m. had passed
/remind me to follow up with Priya tomorrow9:00 AM the next day
/remind me to check the deploy in 45 minutesExactly 45 minutes later
/remind me "Renew the domain" on November 1 at 10am10:00 AM on November 1
/remind me to stretch every weekday at 11am11AM every weekday, recurring

A day without a time uses your default reminder time. Our account's setting read reminder_notification_time: 09:00, Slack's default; change it under Preferences. One-time reminders to yourself land in the Later tab when due. You can also skip the command: hover over a message, click the three dots, choose Remind me about this, and pick a time; more in Slack saved for later.

Reminder on the last day of the month

Slack has no working phrase for "last day of the month". Both phrasings we tried were accepted without an error and saved with a different schedule:

    You typeWhat Slack saved
"Close the books" on the last day of every month at 9am9AM on the 1st of every month, with "on the last" moved into the text
"Close the books" every month on the last day at 9amOne reminder, 9AM tomorrow, with "every month on the last" in the text
"Invoices due" every month on the last Friday at 10amOne reminder on the next Friday
"Close the books" every month on the 31st at 9am9AM on the 31st of every month

The fix is to read Slackbot's reply before you move on. If it does not say "every", the reminder does not repeat. For a month-end reminder, every month on the 31st is the closest working phrase; we did not wait to see what it does in a 30-day month.

Slack recurring reminders

Phrases that repeated in our tests: every weekday, every day, every Monday, every Monday and Wednesday, every other Friday at 3pm, every 2 weeks on Tuesday at 4pm (Slack showed "every other Tuesday"), every 3 weeks on Friday, every month on the 1st and every year on October 7.

Rejected: every hour and every 15 minutes got "Sorry, I didn't quite get that", and every 2 hours created no reminder. With two days, every 2 weeks on Monday and Thursday repeated every week in our earlier test, so set one reminder per day. For a schedule /remind cannot express, see how to schedule a recurring message in Slack; on our Free workspace the Workflow templates were locked.

Can you set a Slack reminder for someone else?

Not directly anymore. Slack's current help center lists personal, message, list, canvas and channel reminders, and no reminder for another person. Users on r/Slack reported in 2023 that /remind @name stopped working when reminders moved to the Later tab. Your options:

  • • Remind a channel the person is in and mention them in the text: /remind #project "@maria the report is due today" on Friday at 9am.
  • • Schedule a DM to them: write the message, click the arrow next to Send, and choose a time. See how to delay and schedule Slack messages.
  • List and delete reminders

Type /remind list in a channel. Slackbot shows, only to you, the reminders "In this channel" (10 at a time, with View remaining reminders), then your own Recurring reminders, each with a Delete link. There is no edit link: delete the reminder and create it again, as shown in how to edit a Slack reminder.

Slack's /remind list after our tests: 10 of 12 channel reminders, with the two misread month-end reminders, and two recurring personal reminders

One-time reminders to yourself are not in this list; they wait in Later until due. Guests can set reminders only for themselves. Every other built-in command is in the Slack slash commands list.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I set a reminder every weekday in Slack? /remind #channel "Post your update" every weekday at 9:30am, or /remind me to ... every weekday at 9:30am.

Can Slack remind me every hour? No. every hour was rejected and every 2 hours created no reminder in our test.

Why did my reminder fire at 9 a.m.? You gave a day without a time. Slack uses your default reminder time, 9:00 unless you changed it in Preferences.

What happens if I set a reminder for a time that already passed today? Slack sets it for that time tomorrow. Our at 3pm, sent at 4:43 p.m., was due at 3 p.m. the next day.
