Does Slack Show When You Were Last Active or Online?

No. Slack shows a present-tense dot, active or away right now, and never a last-seen time. What coworkers can infer anyway, what admins see, and how to control the little that is visible.

No. Slack has no last-seen feature. The presence dot answers one question in the present tense: is this person active right now, or away right now. There is no "last seen 2 hours ago", no "online yesterday", and no login history visible to coworkers, on any plan.

The dot is present tense; Slack never shows a last-seen time

We build Slack Green, a tool that controls that dot, so this page also covers the little that others can infer and how to manage it.

What the dot does and does not say

A filled green dot means the person's Slack saw input in the last 10 minutes on some device. A hollow gray dot means it did not. That is the entire vocabulary. The gray dot carries no timestamp, and manual away renders identically to signed out, so a coworker cannot distinguish "stepped away 5 minutes ago" from "on vacation since Monday".

Manually away and signed out for a week show the same gray dot

What people can infer anyway

Message timestamps, dot flips, and reactions leak activity times

No timestamp exists, but three proxies leak history:

  • Message timestamps. Your last message in any shared channel is public
  • history. This is the closest thing Slack has to last seen.
  • Watching the dot flip. Someone staring at your profile sees the moment
  • you go gray. Automated watching violates Slack's terms, but a human glancing repeatedly is just a human.
  • Reactions and edits. Both carry visible times.
  • So the honest answer to "can someone tell when I was last on Slack": not from presence, but your message history speaks for itself.

    What admins see

Slack पर फिर कभी "away" न दिखें

क्लाउड-आधारित। कोई डाउनलोड नहीं। लैपटॉप बंद होने पर भी 24/7 काम करता है।

Workspace admins on paid plans can pull access logs: device, IP, and session times. That is real login history, visible to admins only, never to coworkers. The full monitoring picture is in will I get caught.

Controlling what little is visible

  • • To be online without showing it,
  • set yourself away manually. You read everything, notifications keep arriving, and the dot stays gray.
  • • To look present during working hours regardless of where you are, a
  • server-side schedule holds the dot green: how to keep Slack active compares the options, including ours.
  • • The dot and your status text are
  • separate systems. Neither leaks times.

    Frequently asked questions

Does Slack show when you were last active? No. The dot is present tense only. No hover, menu, or API surface shows a last-active time to coworkers.

Can you see when someone was last online on Slack? No, unless they message, react, or edit, which carry timestamps. The dot itself never tells you.

Does Slack show that you are using mobile? No. The dot carries no device label, covered in does Slack show when you are on mobile.

Does Slack show last seen on mobile? No. The mobile app shows the same dot with the same rules, and the phone flips it within seconds of backgrounding.

Do apps exist that track when someone goes online on Slack? Presence is visible to workspace members over the API, so such trackers can exist, and workspaces can and do ban them. Slack's terms prohibit using the API to surveil coworkers.

    The short version

    Slack पर फिर कभी "away" न दिखें

    क्लाउड-आधारित। कोई डाउनलोड नहीं। लैपटॉप बंद होने पर भी 24/7 काम करता है।

Slack keeps no last-seen record for coworkers to find. The dot says now, messages say when you last spoke, and admin logs say the rest to admins only. If what you want is control over that dot, that is a solved problem.
