The Slack free plan shows only the last 90 days of messages and files, deletes data older than one year, allows 10 apps, and limits huddles and Slack Connect to one-on-one. Every limit from Slack's help center, what happens at day 90, and when upgrading is worth it.

Slack has no timer button. Use /remind in 25 minutes, a status that clears itself, or a date-token message that shows "in 23 minutes" to your channel.

A red dot on the Slack icon means unread activity somewhere; a red number means DMs, mentions, keywords or followed thread replies. Press Shift+Esc to mark all read, check Threads, Activity, To-dos and other workspaces, then clear the cache or reset the OS badge.

In Microsoft Teams, a green check means Available, red means Busy, red with a white bar means Do not disturb, a yellow clock means Away, a grey x means Offline and a purple arrow means Out of office. We drew each icon from Microsoft's own Fluent UI files, including the hollow versions Out of office shows.

Teams admins can see activity counts per person: messages in channels and chats, meetings, 1:1 calls, audio, video and screen share time, and your last activity date. Your status follows keyboard and mouse activity on the whole computer. Teams does not log keystrokes, your screen, or other apps.

Yes. A workspace Owner or Admin can reactivate a deactivated Slack account at any time from Admin, Workspace settings, People: click the three dots and Activate account. The member can sign in at once and sees messages they sent before, but is not added back to channels. Steps, Enterprise, and why an account gets deactivated.

Paid plans keep messages for the life of the workspace. On Free, a busy channel showed messages back to exactly 90 days and nothing older. Real settings and options below.

Remove Slack from Login Items on a Mac or disable it in Task Manager on Windows. We tested the Mac steps on macOS 26.5.2 and read Slack 4.52.171's startup code to explain why Slack sometimes comes back.

Open Help, Troubleshooting, Clear Cache and Restart. In our test on Slack 4.52.171 it deleted 1.5 GB of cached files in about a second, kept the sign-in, and restarted in under 3 seconds. Reset App Data signs you out of everything.

Most scripts that promise to keep Slack active no longer work through the API: it cannot force a user to active, and bot tokens have their own presence. OS keypress scripts do keep the Slack desktop app active while the screen is unlocked. How to test any script with users.getPresence.
